The Nature of Man

Does 0⁰ = 1 or 0?  Does a human = good or evil?  It appears a bit confusing when you note the following:

x⁰ = 1 for any x not equal to 0.
0^y = 0 for any y not equal to 0.

"Consensus has recently been built around setting the value of 0^0 = 1."

For these questions, I think I might like the answer "yes" better :) It depends on the context.
